apricot blossom

my heart is preyed upon by my mind,

my perception of life is ravenously devoured anew each day

like these edible birds uttering horrible cries~

you should know there is also
a heaven in the earth;
to seek it singlemindedly
is to seek immortality

Coil - Stolen & Contaminated Songs

1990; 13 tracks

Here is over 60 minutes of material evolved from the Love's Secret Domain sessions, extensively reworked and remixed with the addition of previously unreleased material. As Jhonn has said, "It is dance music for the head." This is definitely, most definitely my favourite Coil album. It is the epitome of Coil perfection, and it also features the best version of the track "Love's Secret Domain." It's way better than the LSD album version. It's so sexy and so eerie - Jhonn Balance at his most raw, it would seem. There are excerpts from the films The Reflecting Skin and The Wizard of Gore in the album too, as well as the suicide voicemail in "Who'll Fall?", which has to be one of the most haunting and disturbing thing I've ever heard.

Are you sure you know what reality is?

As it really is!

Coil - The Remote Viewer

2002; 5 tracks

If you think you know Coil, think again. There is NOTHING in the entire canon of Coil releases that sounds even remotely (haha....) like this. I'm not kidding.

After a few listens, I thought that it was music from another world, as, admittedly, all Coil is.... but..... this struck me in a different way. Look at the cover of Michael Gira's Drainland. Look at the film Brazil, imagine the world of Oceania in 1984, picture yourself in the underwater laboratory of Hard-Boiled Wonderland with INKlings crawling all over you. These are atmosopheres that I am reminded of by The Remote Viewer - mystery, darkness, a place of remorseless human animals.

These 5 tracks will defintely shake you out of that little world you've created for yourself and take you to an entirely underground, remote, mysterious, dark, filthy world.. the world of COIL.

Remastered version.

Coil - Colour Sound Oblivion Sampler

This video shows us a sample of what can be found in the Colour Sound Oblivion Box-Set. These performances are extremely personal and seething with dark, sexual energy... I found it very emotional to watch, and felt a deep longing to be there and witness these shows. This video also includes the very first Coil live appearance, which features Jhonn Balance and John Gosling at the Air Gallery, London in 1983. If you've never seen a live Coil performance before, you really should watch this video.

Coil - Scatology

1984; 14 tracks

I never say this about an album, but - this has to be my absolute favorite album of all time. It's the first official release of Coil's (excluding the 17-minute weird sex track), and in my opinion, their best. I think what really gets me about this album is the VOCALS. Jhonn Balance is always amazing, but there's something torturous and therefore lovely about his voice in Scatology. This album has a sort of an upbeat, industrial sound to it, but not without the strange, eerie sampling that Coil is quite well known for. I love this album. My favorite tracks are all of them! AHHH I love this album!!!!!!!!

Coil - ...And the Ambulance Died in his Arms

2005 (recorded in 2003); 5 tracks

This album is one that I've been struggling with for a long time. I guess I didn't give it a fair chance or listen at first, but after listening to it full through 5 times, I have come to love it. This is a live album (more info here) that has captured the hearts of nearly all Coil fans - it is an intensely personal look at COIL, and especially Balance. This album provides the listener (or at least me) a glimpse at a previously mysterious man - Jhonn Balance. He jokes and plays with the audience, interacts with them, answers questions, and is just generally great. This album also features 3 new Coil tracks, among them "A Slip in the Marylebone Road" - an AMAZING, atmospheric, beautiful track. Enjoy this beautiful Coil live album.
